With 1 in 4 people in the UK likely to experience a mental health issue each year, it is of the upmost importance that workplaces are taking an active role in supporting the wellbeing of their staff. Supporting the people around us who are experiencing poor mental health has become a priority for many people and the organisations they work in. Becoming a Mental Health First Aider can help to facilitate this.
A greater understanding of common mental health issues has developed over the last few years and there has been a rise in the number of people who want to act as a Mental Health First Aider, enabling them to positively contribute to their workplace and society.
Mental Health First Aid In the Workplace

The Mental Health First Aid in the Workplace course is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification that has been specifically designed for those who would like to become a Mental Health First Aider in their workplace.
The objective of the qualification is to benefit the Learner by educating them in common mental health problems related to work such as stress, depression anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The qualification includes how to actively listen and have a conversation, provide suggestions but also empower the individual to make their own decisions on how to best provide assistance in difficult times. The Learner will also gain an understanding of laws that apply to the workplace associated with mental health.
This course will teach you to:
- Understand Mental Health and its importance
- Understand roles and responsibilities in relation to Mental Health in the workplace
- Understand a range of common Mental Health conditions: stress, anxiety, eating disorders, depression, signs of suicide and self-harm
- Know how to implement Mental Health First Aid strategies in the workplace
- Understand how employers can provide support to employees
Course Content
The course is broken down into 4 parts, with each part taking about half a day to complete.

Who Is This Course For?
This course is aimed at those who have an interest in mental health first aid and would like to raise their awareness of mental health within the work environment and be able to actively listen and guide/support work colleagues and the public. This qualification is ideal for those who are line managers or work in the human resources department, although any member of staff should be able to attend this qualification.

Course Length
This is a 2 day course.
Entry Requirements
There are no pre-requisites to this course. However, the minimum age limit is 18.
Assessment Method
A multi-choice exam is to be completed at the end of the course.
Certificate
This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. To remain qualified, you will need to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date.
A personalised e-certificate is sent out to successful learners. Printed certificates are available at an extra cost.
